Sepiolite fiber

Sepiolite fiber is a kind of natural mineral fiber, it is a fibrous variety of sepiolite mineral, called α-sepiolite. According to experts, sepiolite as a layer chain silicate minerals, structure of two layers of silicon oxygen tetrahedron sandwiched between a layer of magnesium oxygen octahedron, the formation of 2∶1 type of layered structural units. The tetrahedral layer is continuous and the direction of reactive oxygen species in the layer is periodically reversed. The octahedral layers form alternate channels between the upper and lower layers. The orientation of the channel is consistent with the fiber axis, allowing water molecules, metal cations and organic small molecules to enter the channel. Sepiolite has good heat resistance, sepiolite also has good ion exchange and catalytic properties, and corrosion resistance, radiation resistance, insulation, heat insulation and other excellent properties, especially in its structure of Si-OH can directly react with organic matter to generate organic mineral derivatives.

In the structural units, SiO tetrahedron and Mg O octahedron alternate with each other, with layered and chain-like transition characteristics. Sepiolite has unique physical and chemical properties, it has a high specific surface area (up to 800-900m/g), large porosity, has a strong adsorption and catalytic capacity.

The application field of sepiolite is also very wide, and after purification, ultrafine processing, modification and a series of treatment of sepiolite, can be used as adsorbent, purifying agent, deodorant, reinforcing agent, suspension agent, thixotropic agent, filler and other applications in water treatment, catalysis, rubber, coating, chemical fertilizer, feed and other industries. In addition, sepiolite has good salt resistance and high temperature resistance, so it can be used as a drilling mud material for oil drilling, geothermal drilling and other aspects.
