Industrial clay minerals are kaolin, bentonite (mainly composed of montmorillonite), active clay (composition is uncertain), etc. Kaolin was first mined by the Chinese in Gaoling Village, Jiangxi Province, and used to make ceramics. Bentonite was first mined in Wyoming in 1888, and active clay was first mined in Texas in 1906.
